Julius-K9 victory against dog harness copies
The so called „talking” harnesses with attachable labels led Julius-K9 to world success. It came as no surprise that fake Chinese made copies popped up on the market. Lawsuits started against the forgers in several European countries. In all cases Julius-K9 came out as winner.
JULIUS-K9 is one of the fastest growing textile companies in Hungary, the products of which are often seen in the media, in police news or in the coverage of rescue operations.
The worldwide success of the company was brought about in 2003 by the so called “talking” dog harness which, in addition to being a well-proven high visibility vest, so to say multifunctional equipment, also allowed the attachment of Velcro labels. The replaceability and wide selection of the labels was one of the reasons for the increase in the sales figures of dog harnesses to tens of thousands of pieces per month in a few years. The funny texts on the dogs, like „HYSTERIX”, „NOISE REDUCTION” or „COPYRIGHT”, put a smile on the faces of people, thus it is no wonder that soon copies of the successful product arrived from China. In response, Julius-K9 filed suits against the distributors in several European countries, including Hungary.
So far the results are promising, because for example in Austria execution was ordered against the Austrian owner of the „DOXLOCK” brand name for abusing the Julius-K9 trademark, then on 25th November 2011 the Supreme Court of Cologne (OLG Köln) upheld an earlier judgement against the same company, “prohibiting the distribution of Doxlock dog harnesses that can be confused with the products of Julius-K9 on the territory of Germany”.
Gyula Sebő, production manager of Julius-K9, said the followings about the Hungarian victory:
– Unfortunately, even the largest supermarket chains are affected by the withdrawal of copy products in Germany. In my view the lawyers handling our cases acted in an exemplary manner, helping to reach an agreement with the stores with an open and cooperative attitude so characteristic of our business policy. Our responsibility was huge, as the judgement allows us not only to save close to a hundred domestic jobs on the long term, but also to create new ones. I wish my fellow entrepreneurs to achieve similar successes in Europe.
