There is currently a ticking bomb below Europe
State efficiency in disaster-scenarios directly depends on the independence of the European economy. This is no different in case of the coronavirus. Julius-K9 offered its production capacity in vain following the declaration of health emergency in several EU member states. For example, it is not possible to produce masks that are effective against viruses without locally available commodities. Although in many different ways, but nearly all countries around the globe depend on the Chinese industrial production. Europe’s leading countries are high on the list of economic dependence. Just as in many cases production cannot be carried out at all without the Chinese suppliers under the EU flag, the European textile industry cannot produce face masks in the absence of raw materials either. This product line is also in short supply in China, even though its raw materials are only produced there. With this in mind, there is little chance that the European public will have access to protective masks. However, we must also ask what other essential tools or materials exist that could cause similar problems in an emergency or everyday situation if lacking? When will we find out? When it is already too late? In the midst of battling with one another, can the European political elite effectively put in place a strategy that can provide security for the population in real emergencies?
